My wife and I have individual google calendars and we have a shared ‘family’ calendar. I’ve got Calendly looking at both calenders but it seems to not recognize ‘all-day’ busy events on the ‘family’ calendar while recognizing them on my personal calendar. They are marked as busy. Any thoughts or suggestions?
Hey there
Firstly - is Calendly recognizing other “busy” events on your shared/family calendar as conflicts? If yes - the solution is probably as simple as:
-
Set the all-day event to start on one day, then end one day later (i.e. 12:00am 3/24 - 12:01am 3/25). Calendly will then detect that this event spans the full day and consider it a conflict.
-
Alternatively, create the event as a time-specific event (i.e. 12:00 AM- 11:59 PM).
If Calendly is not reading any “busy” events on your shared/family calendar as conflicts, it’s likely due to issues with the permissions in place/the way the calendar was shared. See below for the step-by-step to making sure this is done correctly!
Checking multiple Google calendars
Calendly can read your availability based on one or more calendars. To connect existing calendars, you'll need to share them using the settings within Google.
Open your calendar on a computer and find the My calendars section in the sidebar. Hover over the calendar you would like to share, and open the options drop-down to find Settings and sharing. Once the page opens, locate the Share with specific people section and add the email address of the receiving calendar account.
Be sure to update the permissions selection to Make changes and manage sharing.
The GIF below shows this process from start to finish!
If you prefer, you can create new calendars for different categories of events. Read more about sharing calendars on Google's help center. Once your calendars are shared, return to your Calendar Connection page > click “edit” next to “check for conflicts” and check off all sub-calendars that apply so Calendly can accurately read your availability (meaning your shared/family calendar needs to be selected as a sub-calendar in order for the “busy” events there to appear as conflicts in Calendly!).
If the above does not result in your “all day/busy” events on your shared/family calendar appearing as conflicts in Calendly - no worries - let’s dig deeper!
Can you tell me if your shared/family calendar appears as a sub-calendar on your Calendar Connection page when clicking “edit” next to either/both “add to calendar” and/or “check for conflicts”? Can you tell me if other “busy” events on this shared/family calendar appear as conflicts in Calendly and that it’s only all-day “busy” events that aren’t?
Looking forward to hearing back from you!
Did some further troubleshooting and refreshed the browser window. It seem to be working now. I did notice there is a time lag from the event being created to being recognized by Calendly so I might have been caught in the checking too soon. Thanks for the reply.

You are so welcome - and I am truly so glad to hear things are working, now! Please let us know if you need anything else. Check out our New User Guide when you get a chance, too. It’s a great resource as you learn the ropes. Have a nice HUMP DAY!
