Hi Calendly community,

I have a ‘regular’ paid subscription account for a small venture I have been setting up. I have been perusing the help section, tutorials, etc. and have spent a few days setting up event types. But I keep hitting snags around availability, mutual exclusivity, individual vs. group, etc. I’m hoping someone can help me with “ah, here’s what you want to do!” because I think my use case is fairly straightforward. The concurrency/exclusivity is driving me batty trying to figure it out.

The behavior I’m looking for is this:

  • I have three event types-- “Short” (3 hours), “Medium” (5 hours), and “Long”(7 hours).
  • They are all available at a time-- let’s say 5pm every day. They are mutually exclusive. So a person can choose one of those three. When they do so, it renders the others unavailable to book.
  • I have set up these three event types. On the Calendly.com/mybizname page, it starts by showing the three and it says “please follow the instructions to add an event to my calendar.” I do not want this-- I don’t want them to have to choose an event type. I want them to see a calendar page with dates, on each date the three types are listed, and they can click one to book that type.
  • I don’t need to have an option for “individual” vs. “group” - once person A books a Short, Medium, or Long (for themself or a group consisting of them and their friends), then the other options for that time are no longer available. But if I need to do some sort of “group” variant of an event type in order to make the setup what I need it to be, I’m not opposed.

This seems so straightforward to me but it’s been proving really difficult to set up. So to recap, the flow would look like this:

  1. They come to a calendar. (e.g. a Google calendar, or one within Calendly.) They click on a date and see three available options, all starting at 5pm: Short, Medium, Long.
  2. Upon booking one of those three, that date becomes unavailable for the other two types.

Thanks so much!

Hi @Miggy Stardust - Thanks for reaching out! I appreciate all the detailed information you’ve shared.

At this time, you cannot select a duration from the Calendar Page directly (However this is something thats logged as a feature request!), so right now each event is locked to the duration you set it as.

With this in mind, there would be two ways to accomplish this:

  • Share your landing page with your users, so they can select the time first (Although this is something you’ve already explored already)
  • The other option is to use our Routing Forms to allow the customer to fill out their information and then select the duration they’d like to book, then be routed to that specific page. (You can read more on this here: How to create a Routing Form)

While what you’re looking for is not a direct Calendly feature, you provided a lot of great feedback I can share with our teams, hopefully we can see this added on in the future!

Let me know if you have any questions.

Hi,
You could also create three event types with identical availability, and once one of them is booked at a specific time (e.g 5pm), the other two will automatically become unavailable for that same time slot.
