This is my first time visiting this community, and I was happy to see that other users have already started a thread complaining about the terrible new layout.

However, it seems the thread was closed and nothing happened.

No support? No reply? Really, Calendly team?

Is it time to switch to a different scheduling platform?

And please, don't ask me, "What don't you like?" You know exactly what users are complaining about.

Hi @Florian21833, so sorry you aren’t enjoying the new layout. Believe it or not we do read these and take into consideration your feedback. I’ll add this thread to the running list of user evaluations for our product team to review. We want this to be usable by everyone! I don’t want to add irritation to your day but any additional details would be greatly appreciated. General overall feedback of the new UI does give us some information but the more details the better.

No, I and many others are not enjoying the new layout.

The current layout wastes space in the wrong place. The oversized event list takes up half the screen, while the right-hand column, where all the important event settings are managed, is too narrow. Editing availability, duration, or details means constant scrolling and collapsing sections. This was solved in the old layout, which gave enough width for settings while keeping the overview compact. Because of all the criticism of the new layout, which still seems to be ignored, it’s time to revert to the previous view.

I came here to see if there had been any progress on this. I find it frustrating as there has been no explanation for the change. It honestly feels like it was motivated by an intern new to coding, trying to show off the fact that they can code an flyout panels.

  • I find is much harder to navigate / find what I need.
    • Previously, I could click on the left-hand panel and the information would open up to the right in an easy read space.
    • Now, I need to click to open and scroll though (sometimes clicking again) to try and figure out where everything is and find what I need.
  • There is a cognitive overload with this layout: the cramped interface feels incredibly cluttered, making it harder to process multiple form fields, instructions and setup rules.
    • I don’t set these up every day, so there is often a level of familiarisation each time I need to make a change.
    • This layout is not intuitive. It is hard to explain, but working like this feels claustrophobic.
  • The constant toggling has made setting rules on availability harder to figure out, and therefore Calendly much less intuitive to use.
    • As noted above, I don't set these regularly. All I know is that I’m finding it harder to remember how it works, as the workflow is not intuitive. Previously, I was able to remind myself quite quickly
  • Limited space for navigation through each sub-section requires an excessive amount of scrolling and clicking open/closed content panels/sub-sections.
  • The interface becomes quite messy as the panels remain open unless manually closed, again increasing the scroll load.
  • Limited space for editing results in yet more scrolling if the description isn’t a simple comment with a few lines.
  • Difficulty for users with motor impairments: tiny click/tap targets in a narrow area can be hard to interact with accurately.
  • It does not conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG):
    • 2.1. Make all functionality available from a keyboard: i cannot navigate through this panel with a keyboard. It jumps to main content are (not in use) and then away from the screen entirely.
    • 3.2.1 When any user interface component receives focus, it does not initiate a change of context: given the layout of Calendly, with a navigation sidebar to the left and content area that updates depending on the option chosen, the expected behaviour is that the whole content area will update. Having just a narrow portion of this change with a flyout panel is a change of context.
    • 3.2.3 Navigational mechanisms that are repeated on multiple web pages within a set of web pages occur in the same relative order each time they are repeated, unless a change is initiated by the user: this is the same as the above, the option for the user to change this is not available. .
    • 3.2.5 Changes of context are initiated only by user request or a mechanism is available to turn off such changes: users do not have a choice on how this views.

A simple solution would be to have the ‘More Options’ link open the panel into the full content area (like Outlook etc.).

I appreciate the effort to have an appealing UI, it is important for a lot of users (myself included)… but there is no logic behind the decision to cram what is arguably one of the most important interfaces into a space that account for less a third of the available area. There is also no benefit to having visibility of a high-level list of Events attached to the account when you are focused on editing one of these events.
