When we started using Calendly, we originally started off by adding time buffers to all of our event types.

But now, we have removed all of our time buffers from all of our event types. So we don’t want any time buffers anymore.

However, it seems like all the previously-scheduled events (that were scheduled when the time buffers were still in place) STILL have all of their old time buffers today, even though we have now removed all of the time buffers for all of those event types.

So it seems like Calendly operates like this:

When Calendly adds events to our calendars, Calendly permanently attaches the original time buffers that were originally active for that event type WHEN THE EVENT WAS ORIGINALLY SCHEDULED.

However, even if we have now updated all of our particular event types to have NO BUFFERS at all, Calendly still hangs onto all of those old buffers for all of the previously-scheduled events for those event types.

And there seems to be no way to remove an old time buffer from a previously-scheduled event.

Because of this, our customers are unable to book new events, because the time buffers (which no longer exist) are preventing them from booking events. These time buffers are gone from all of the event types, but Calendly is still telling us that time buffers exist for the previously-scheduled events.

We have removed the time buffers from all of the event types, but Calendly is still holding onto the old time buffers for previously-scheduled appointments.

It would be great if we could tell Calendly to update all of the previously-scheduled events to honor our NEW TIME BUFFERS that are in place NOW for all of our event types.

Hey there @ScottWorld - thanks so much for posting your topic and for the thorough explanation of what’s going on. I definitely understand your frustration, here. Let me explain buffers!

Firstly - you are right. Buffers are a permanent attachment to bookings made when they are in place. This is because the buffers aren’t attached to the event type itself, but rather to each individual booking - in order to “buffer out” the time before and/or after each of those bookings. When you make changes to your event type settings, like adding or removing buffer time, those changes do not apply retroactively but rather only apply to new bookings made after the changes are saved.

For this reason, you will need to cancel and reschedule the previously booked events (that were made with buffers in place) in order to knock those buffers off of them. This will free up the time on your booking page. You can read more here: Availability Schedules. I know this is inconvenient and I apologize! I do hope having the info is helpful, though.

Let me know if I can answer any more questions for you!

@ScottWorld I also wanted to let you know that I will be sure to include your feature request for our product team to look into! Thank you for including that!

HI @Kelsi at Calendly,

Thanks so much for your detailed explanation of this, and for explaining exactly how this behavior works!

Also, thanks for the workaround idea of canceling & rescheduling appointments to “inherit” the new time buffer settings for that particular event type.

And also thank you for passing on my feedback to the product team as a feature request — it would be great to automatically “re-apply” the new time filters to all existing appointments.

Thank you! :)
Scott

@ScottWorld thanks so much for all of your thanks! Lol! You are truly welcome - let me know if there’s anything else I can do to help!
