This is article number three of three exploring common issues with the Outlook Plug-in. This piece covers the Outlook Plug-in, not the Outlook Add-in. The Plug-in connects your desktop Outlook calendar to Calendly in order to check for conflicts and add events. If you installed an .exe to set up the integration, you have the Plug-in. The Outlook Add-in, on the other hand, is available through Microsoft AppSource. For more about the Add-in, visit This Page.

A few details about this article:

  • This is for users who are getting a specific error appearing when attempting to sync the plug-in with Calendly
  • Its important to note these are not normal troubleshooting steps, and should not be done when facing syncing issues. If you have not already, please refer to:
  • If the error you’re seeing is not listed, first check that your plug-in and computer are both up to date.
  • If you are seeing errors not listed here, please leave a comment below so we can help you out!

Here we will cover the following errors:

  • Plug-in says : "User token must not be blank"
  • Plug-in says “Outlook appears to be running in administrator mode”
  • Outlook credentials have to be re-entered every time plug-in syncs

Specific Errors

If the Outlook Plug-in or Outlook Desktop is showing a specific error when attempting to start or sync, there are some steps you can follow depending on the error you’re seeing. Some of those errors, with their troubleshooting steps, are listed below.

My plug-in says : "User token must not be blank".

If this error is appearing, this means the plug-in key is missing. You will need to follow the install steps to grab a new key from Calendly, and enter it in the software.

Plug-in says “Outlook appears to be running in administrator mode”

Outlook and the Plug-in need to either both be running in administrator mode, or both not be running in administrator mode.

To resolve this, you’ll want to attempt to take Outlook out of Administrator Mode:

  1. Close both Outlook and the Calendly for Outlook plug-in
  2. Remove Outlook from running in Administrator Mode. This third-party article will walk you through how to do that.
  3. Restart your PC after you make the change.

If you have any trouble with this, you can attempt to run the Calendly for Outlook Plug-in in Administrator Mode:

  1. Close both Outlook and the Calendly for Outlook Plug-in
  2. Set the Calendly for Outlook Plug-in to run in Administrator Mode. This third-party article will walk you through how to do that.
  3. Restart your PC after you make the change.

Every time I sync my plug-in I have to enter my Outlook credentials

This is usually caused by a setting being enabled within Outlook, you can follow the steps below to disable it! Note: you may need to open Outlook in Administrator Mode in order to edit these settings.

  1. Open Outlook.
  2. Choose File from the main menu.
  3. Choose Info, then Account Settings.
  4. Choose the E-mail tab.
  5. Right-click on the account that is generating the Windows Security prompt, then select Change.
  6. Select More settings.
  7. Under the Security tab, uncheck the ”Always prompt for login credentials” box and confirm changes.
  8. Click OK and save changes.
