Question

NEW requirement for text verification to receive text reminders

Just today, July 15th, when I scheduled one of my students, it said they needed to verify a number sent via text message. I schedule for my students when they aren’t present - they ask for a meeting and I set it up on my end. This means I can’t be verifying text messages.
If I do NOT verify it, it says they won’t receive text reminders for the meeting. I need them to receive these - no one reads emails.
I saw this: https://calendly.com/help/how-to-send-text-messages-with-workflows

How can I make sure students still get text reminders if I can’t do the verification each time. Is it EACH TIME? That feels insane to me.

Is there any reason this seems to be working for some calendars and not others? I work with several companies and out of 8 different calendars only 3 are showing the verification message?

Just to clarify, I would prefer none of them to show the message as it is negatively impacting our business - but just seems odd how inconsistently the message pops up. (And to clarify, I am booking in a unique client every time, so the point made above about only needing to do it once per person is irrelevant to my situation)

This just needs to be removed, or have a toggle in the settings for us to turn it on or off.

Calendly team,

I absolutely love your services. However if this feature prolongs with no way of turning it on or off I will sadly have to part ways because it’s negatively affecting my business.

Our organization books many customer appointments over the phone, and this new verification is also unwelcome. Please reconsider!!

Could not agree more.  Our staff just held a one hour meeting on how ridiculous and unacceptable this is. We book all of our clients meetings as our staff is very busy and we provide white glove service to our clients.  Please reconsider as we reconsider alternatives to Calendly.

We’ve noticed this as well. This is a massive hindrance to the way we utilise Calendly.

We book for clients all the time on their behalf at their request. Having this is a massive block and will result in us changing products if there isn't an option to switch this off.

Hi all,

Thank you all so much for jumping in here to provide feedback as this new restriction rolls out. We’re working on balancing trust & safety with your workflows, so understanding how this affects your work is really important.

To answer @BBoyle’s question: it's one-time per phone number and event type, not every booking. But I hear you—when you're scheduling students or clients who aren't there to verify, even once is a lot of friction.

@Calforce50652 - the Zapier + Twilio is a good workaround. But I also understand wanting this to work within Calendly—totally fair. We're still in the early stages of rolling this out, so feedback like yours is really valuable. Your experience helps us understand what's breaking and what needs to change.

I've escalated to product team so we’ll follow up if there are any updates here. Appreciate the feedback!

Best,
Allie

Nope. It has asked me on every meeting (even the same exact type) for every client, even if they already did it once. It is every single time, no matter what. It is absolutely a problem. Telling us to use TWO different software solutions (Zapier and Twilio) to do a workaround is an absurd solution.
I am looking at other calendar solutions at this point so I can dump Calendly if this isn’t changed. It slows down my business and causes issues with people not getting reminders.

Hi. @Allie M  you said:

This is not true. I have tried this with several clients, asking them for the code that they receive once, and then when I go to book the SAME EVENT TYPE for them using the SAME PHONE NUMBER, I still get a verification pop-up. Please, please PLEASE fiix this!!!!! It is beyond terrible. I don’t need a work-around, I need a solve.

Any new or updated info you can provide would be much appreciated.

Thank you.

Any solutions yet? I’m trying to avoid researching another service provider.

Hey @Samantha30014 & @BBoyle - Just to confirm, how are you entering these bookings into Calendly? Are you using the public link and entering the information, or are you using the Book Meeting option from your events page?

Let me know! I’m getting all of this information over to our product team.

Hi @David. Thanks for following up.

For me, I am using the “book follow-up” link because that is the fastest way to book the exact same appointment over and over again with the same person, as all the info is already populated.

Any updates on this feature being altered? It really is a nightmare for scheduling. And if not, can you explain WHY Calendly chose to add an additional layer to text messages?

Thanks!
