Question

NEW requirement for text verification to receive text reminders

Just today, July 15th, when I scheduled one of my students, it said they needed to verify a number sent via text message. I schedule for my students when they aren’t present - they ask for a meeting and I set it up on my end. This means I can’t be verifying text messages.
If I do NOT verify it, it says they won’t receive text reminders for the meeting. I need them to receive these - no one reads emails.
I saw this: https://calendly.com/help/how-to-send-text-messages-with-workflows

How can I make sure students still get text reminders if I can’t do the verification each time. Is it EACH TIME? That feels insane to me.

Yeah, this just happened to me. I have the exact same issue.

Happened to us as well. We use it to schedule clients when they arent always present and cannot verify text messages. We use text reminders because certain email providers will send Calendly invites to spam and people have difficulty finding it. Very inconvent and negatively impacts our work flow. Definatly a hugh step backwards in Calendly’s functionality. Please fix.

This exact issue is happening to me as well.  I need them to fix so i can book people without needing a verification code from them.  Also i work with about 40-60 other agents reporting the same exact issue.  Please fix

Agreed.

We use Calendly for scheduling, but all appointments are booked internally by our staff while speaking with clients over the phone. Our clients never interact with the Calendly scheduling link directly.

The new phone verification process creates a significant bottleneck, especially during our busy season, because our staff will have to wait for clients to receive and relay a verification code before completing the scheduling process.

I can understand the need for SMS consent. However, I wonder if it would be possible to offer an alternative opt-in method, such as sending the client a text that says, "Reply YES to receive appointment reminders," rather than requiring a one-time verification code?

This would better support businesses that schedule appointments on behalf of their clients while still obtaining the necessary consent.

Yes, this is a huge inconvenience. I book clients often when they’re not present. It’s unreasonable to have to chase them down for verification codes each time I book them in so they can get the text reminders. Many people aren’t actively checking email notifications like they do with text messages…

Calendly needs to come up with up much better solution here.

Is this a feature we can turn off?

No, it doesn’t seem like it. It’s them trying to align with anti-spam laws.

@armon - as a workaround, you can use Zapier to send the SMS message (via Twilio) directly to the invitee. Calendly’s SMS text messages also use Twilio; by signing up for your own Twilio account you can avoid the SMS confirmation restriction.

Hi all,

Thank you all so much for jumping in here to provide feedback as this new restriction rolls out. We’re working on balancing trust & safety with your workflows, so understanding how this affects your work is really important.

To answer @BBoyle’s question: it's one-time per phone number and event type, not every booking. But I hear you—when you're scheduling students or clients who aren't there to verify, even once is a lot of friction.

@Calforce50652 - the Zapier + Twilio is a good workaround. But I also understand wanting this to work within Calendly—totally fair. We're still in the early stages of rolling this out, so feedback like yours is really valuable. Your experience helps us understand what's breaking and what needs to change.

I've escalated to product team so we’ll follow up if there are any updates here. Appreciate the feedback!

Best,
Allie
